During the 2004 season Amazonia - World of Reptiles has been running a successful competition for a fabulous Amethyst Crystal Geode Cathedral, including deliverey to your home address, a prize worth £399!

Amethyst Geodes were formed during volcanic activity as bubbles of superheated gas and liquids slowly cooled with the lava flow. Because the contents of these bubbles were lighter than the surrounding molten magma rock, they tended to migrate upwards, and consequently formed the typical elongated “cathedral” shape, that is most often seen. Many millions of years after the bubble had cooled, they were mined in Brazil, and then carefully cut in half and polished to form the finished Amethyst Geode.

To enter the competition visitors had to correctly identify the colour of the semi- precious Amethyst crystals, which were popular jewellery stones in the Victorian era.

Entry to the competition closes on 1st November 2004 and the winner will be decided on 14th November 2004, and contacted to arrange delivery before the end of November. Three “runners up” prizes, of Family VIP tickets to Amazonia – World of Reptiles will also be given away.

The winners of the competition will be posted on this website
